International Literacy Day is Observed by All United Nations' Member States on 8th September was declared International Literacy Day by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO's General conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.
To celebrate 52nd International Literacy Day was organised at New Delhi today.
According to Census of India report 2011, India's literacy rate is 74.04 per cent. The literacy among men is 82.14 per cent, while for women it's 65.46 per cent.
