When you pick a book, do you read its blurb first, just to get an idea of what the book would be all about? I usually read the blurb; it gives me a sense of what the storyline could be. Though, there are times when the blurb and the actual story don’t fall in line. When I picked this book, I was excited. I loved reading about the history, mythology and my curious mind always wants to discover the story behind all the beautiful temples and magnificent monuments. This book is about Vijay’s Journey in bringing to light the mystery behind the locked doors of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? But first, let me tell you that the book is based on real incidents, but it also has some work of fiction. Hence I would recommend reading this as a work of fiction with a few actual events, which are listed in the book as the story progresses. Sree Padmanabha Swami temple has been in the limelight for quite a while. Vijay as an IB officer has been sent on this mission to uncover the truth. In this journey of discovering the truth, he learns facts about his family lineage, which are related to the temple’s secret. The style of writing is impressive as it is simple and can be understood very easily. There were a few places where found that the sentences ended abruptly. There a few grammatical mistakes as well, not many though. There comes the point in the story where Vijay heads to Banaras and Kedarnath. Here he meets aghoris and saints. Although the narration seemed exciting, but the story deviates from the initial storyline. From what I have comprehended the kind of message the book wants to send is that there is a higher power that is beyond the understanding of the human race and we must leave things to time, for the future to unfold. There are many quotes from the book that have deep meanings and would make you ponder on them. The best one being” As I finished reading this book, I have a few topics that I would like to research upon and know more about the temples of India. Blurbs Intriguing story, conflicts and turmoil’s of Vijay are very well depicted. Agree with the sage on “the purpose of one’s life is to only perform duties and not expect fruits.” A wonderful debut. -V. R. Ferose, Senior Vice President and Head of Globalization Services – SAP and Founder of India Inclusion Summit and Co-Author of ‘Gifted’. The Relic, by Ashwin Karthik SN and Madhava Sharma, has a fine blend of myth and mystery, combining the best aspects of suspense and temple traditions. An absorbing read indeed. – L. Subramani, journalist and author of the memoir ‘Lights Out’. Ashwin and Madhava are living proof of how miracles can be achieved when the mind is focussed upon determination, achievement and optimism rather than setbacks. They have written a book, this is hugely inspiring to all those who procrastinate ideas and their realisation. Both of them, to me are truly inspiring stories and I hope they realise many more dreams in the years to come. – A former journalist, Reema Moudgil is the author of Perfect Eight and the Executive Editor of the online website, Unboxed Writers. Waiting to read more!! Curious to know more on what happens in the life of Vijay? While reading I could feel as though it was just happening right there.
