During the summers, when, we as kids used to visit my grandmother’s place in Andhra Pradesh, all of my mother’s relatives would refer to my mother as ‘Sapota’. We found this strange. Firstly, we were not aware what a ‘sapota’ meant and this word sounded very strange. What is in a name? Later, my grandmother explained the reason behind it. My grandfather was a farmer and owned vast acres of orchards. On these mainly oranges, coconuts, mangoes, jackfruits, cashews and chikoos were grown.
